Orfe, Goldfish & Shubunkins 2-3"

The common Goldfish is the most popular and commonly kept fish in the world. When small, the goldfish is great for keeping in an indoor aquarium. Long term, common goldfish have the potential to grow quite large and are ideal for outdoor garden ponds. Common goldfish are friendly and very active, and thrive in coldwater community aquaria.

Shubunkins are a hardy, single-tailed goldfish with nacreous scales and a pattern known as calico. The Shubunkins are of Japanese origin. The Shubunkin was created by Yoshigoro Akiyama by crossing Calico telescope eye with a Comet goldfish and a Common goldfish. You can keep Shubunkins on their own, but they’re social fish. They don’t always shoal together, but they prefer the company of a school. Goldfish and Shubunkins are very simple to care for and like common goldfish are great for beginners.

The ide (Leuciscus idus) or orfe, is a freshwater fish of the family Cyprinidae found in larger rivers, ponds, and lakes across Northern Europe and Asia. It has been introduced outside its native range in Europe, North America, and New Zealand. It is a popular ornamental outdoor pond fish.

The Orfe is native to Europe and western Asia from the rivers draining into the North Sea east through southern Scandinavia and eastern Europe to the Caspian Sea drainage and the River Lena. As a popular ornamental fish, it was introduced to Great Britain in 1874 and is now widespread in England and Wales, but only has a localised distribution in Scotland. The ide was introduced into France and from there and Germany was introduced as an ornamental fish into the Netherlands.

This listing is for a random mixture of gold and blue (silver) orfe, common goldfish and shubunkins of mixed gender. Shubunkins will be of mixed patterning; goldfish colours may include solid and patterned varieties of orange, red, white and brown/bronze goldfish with occasional black, yellow and white trim and speckling. We will try to provide as even a mixture as possible, but you may receive more of one species than the other completely at random. Ideal mix for new pond setups.
