Comet Goldfish

The Comet Goldfish is the most popular and commonly kept goldfish in the world. When small, the comet goldfish is great for keeping in an indoor aquarium. Long term, comet goldfish have the potential to grow quite large and are ideal for outdoor garden ponds. Comet goldfish are friendly and very active, and thrive in coldwater community aquaria.

How big do Comet Goldfish get?
Comet goldfish can grow to exceed 12 inches or 30cm as adults. You will need adequate space in your aquarium or pond to accomodate this growth. One fish per 25 litres is a good stocking guideline.

Can you keep Comet Goldfish with Koi?
Yes, you can quite happily keep comet goldfish with Koi, as well as other coldwater species such as goldfish and sturgeon. You can also keep with fancy goldfish indoors, although they may out-compete slower swimming species for food.

Ease of care
Easy. Goldfish will drop to the bottom of your pond during winter to keep warm, so try to ensure that your pond is at least a foot deep.

Compatibility
Comet goldfish are compatible with virtually all coldwater community fish. Take care not to house with very small fish once fully grown, as they tend to eat whatever fits in their mouth.

Diet
Omnivorous. Feed goldfish flake or pellets.

Breeding

Egg layers. Proflific spawners, will breed easily in an outdoor pond.

Life Span
Comet goldfish can live up to 10+ years in perfect conditions.
